Community Development Block Grant Program-Federal Funding for Community Enhancement
On an annual basis, the City of North Chicago is allocated funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. While these funds can be utilized by the city for numerous functions such as public infrastructure, housing, and economic development, up to 15% of those funds can be used to fund public services.
Public services can include services for seniors, youth, public health, professional training, or recreational services. The CDBG Resident Advisory Committee is an appointed body which advises the City Council on where to allocate these funds for public services in order to best impact North Chicago residents.
