Planning and Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) consists of seven (7) members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council. The PZC has the responsibility for hearing and deciding upon applications for variations to the regulations of the City’s Zoning Ordinance. All meetings of the PZC are held at such times as the Board may determine.

Term of Office

The members serve alternating terms, four (4) members for three (3) years and two (2) members for two (2) years. The chairperson holds office for a period of two (2) years at which time the Mayor, subject to majority consent of the City Council, may either reappoint the chairperson or designate another member as chairperson.

The Planning and Zoning Commission hears and makes recommendations on the following matters:
  • Amendments to the Zoning Ordinance
  • Amendments to the Zoning Districts (Map Amendments)
  • Special Use Permits
  • Zoning Variations
  • Annexations
  • Planned Unit Developments
  • Comprehensive Plan or other planning documents
  • Subdivision Plats
  • Appeals
  • Zoning Ordinance Interpretations
