CHICAGO (May 17, 2022) - On Thursday, the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes (Coalition) is teaming up with other not-for-profit groups to distribute a week's worth of complimentary food, personal care items and household supplies to 1,000 local-area active duty military, Veterans and their families.

The 2nd Annual Military Appreciation $200,000 Giveaway will be held this Thursday, May 19, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.*, at the Naval Station Great Lakes MWR Fieldhouse, Gym 440. (*10 a.m. - 1 p.m. is reserved for Active-Duty Military and their dependents. After 1 p.m., all MWR-eligible patrons may come to pick up their boxes. While supplies last.)

The Coalition is partnering with Blue Star Families and CSX to giveaway non-perishable food, personal care items, and household items - a $200,000 estimated value.

"It is our honor to help make this outstanding event a blessing for hundreds of local veterans and their families," said SGT Mary Herrera (USA Retired), National Spokesman for the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes. "We know Chicago can be an expensive place to live, especially with inflation running rampant, so we hope that Thursday's event eases the burden on the men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms and way of life."

About the Coalition

Since its establishment in 2004, the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes has provided an immediate, invaluable lifeline to thousands of America's combat-wounded veterans. The Leesburg, Va.-based organization is distinguished from other veteran-focused groups by its direct financial assistance to America's wounded heroes. Its Emergency Financial Aid program has stopped foreclosure proceedings on veterans' homes and kept their vehicles from being repossessed. Its innovative Heroes Thanking Heroes program provides transitional, part-time, flexible employment to nearly 50 combat-wounded veterans or their primary caregivers, enabling them to make phone calls from their homes, usually to personally thank donors for their contributions to the Coalition.

For more information on the Coalition, and to learn how you can support its mission, visit www.saluteheroes.org. Combat-wounded/disabled OIF/OEF/OND veterans are invited to join the Coalition and expand their camaraderie network by enrolling in the Veteran Circle program at http://saluteheroes-vetcircle.org.
