Mayor Rockingham to discuss census, recent tax assessments at 5th Monday Meeting

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (Sept. 25, 2019) — North Chicago Mayor Leon Rockingham will hold a special 5th Monday Meeting on September 30, 2019. The meeting will take place in the North Chicago City Council Chambers beginning at 6:00 p.m.. Mayor Rockingham will be available to address resident questions and will share important information about tax assessments, the 2020 Census and more.

The Shields Township Assessor’s Office, as well as the Lake County Assessment Office, will be in attendance to discuss the recently issued property tax assessments. North Chicago addresses located in Shields Township have seen a significant increase in values as a result of North Chicago’s aggressive blight busting and neighborhood revitalization efforts. “The new valuations show that the housing market in North Chicago is bouncing back and that our efforts have been effective,” said Mayor Rockingham. “The market has seen a reduction in short sales and foreclosures and an increase in property reinvestment throughout the community.”

Information about the 2020 Census will include the City’s Census Pledge and public education campaign. “The 2020 Census, which will be taken on April 1, is just six months away,” said Mayor Rockingham. “It’s important that every resident is counted to ensure local revenue sources are maintained and to protect our congressional representation.”
