The North Chicago Fire Department is a full-time career fire department that provides fire, EMS, technical rescue, fire prevention and education services to a population of approximately 32,574 residents in an area of 8 square miles.
It is the mission of the North Chicago Fire Department to preserve life, property and promote public safety for the citizens of North Chicago. When called upon we will provide a prompt and professional response to emergencies showing care and compassion to all those we serve.
We are dedicated to being a community-focused fire department working as a team to ensure a safe and secure environment for all those entrusted to our care. Building a great work environment where people are inspired to be life-long learners, ensuring they are the best they can be, remaining mindful of our overall customer service responsibilities.
Fire Suppression - Our personnel provide fire protection, hazardous material mitigation, public assistance and technical rescue services to the City of North Chicago and the surrounding communities as requested through Mutual Aid Agreements.
Fire Prevention - The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for providing fire prevention, fire inspections, fire safety education, plan reviews and fire investigations under the mandate of local, state, and federal laws, regulations and standards.
Public and Life Safety Education - Fire and life safety education is continuously provided to the community by Shift Personnel. This is accomplished through various activities which include but are not limited to; fire drills, Fire Prevention Week school presentations, ward and other community meetings.
Emergency Medical Services - All fire personnel are cross-trained as licensed paramedics through the State of Illinois. We provide Advance Life Support care and follow the lifesaving protocols set forth by the North Lake County Emergency Medical Service.
Apparatus - Our complement of apparatus includes 3 MICU’s (Mobile Intensive Care Units), 3 Engines, 1 Aerial truck, 1 Chief’s Car, 1 Command Vehicle, 1 Utility Vehicle and 1 All-terrain Vehicle.
